WillTools 2026-09-09 -- clean snapshot of the development repo for review
History-free snapshot of the private development repository at 77a82eb.
Code, docs and the public catalogue only: no plant or job knowledge
layers, no client, job or producer names (tools/scrub.py clean against
the widened term list; a second word-level grep clean). The intro deck is
left out because its slide images cannot be checked for job drawings.

# tools/setup_machine.py opt-file -- TEMPLATE, not read.
#
# This is `.setup-opts.example`. Only `.setup-opts` (no `.example`) is ever
# read, and setup_machine.py never creates that file itself -- declaring an
# install choice is the owner's to make, not a default this script picks for
# you. Copy this file to `.setup-opts` beside the repo root and edit it if
# you actually want to declare one.
#
# FORMAT -- one `<step>: <mode>` per line. `#` comments and blank lines are
# ignored. A step name this script does not know, an unstated value
# (`panellift:` with nothing after the colon), or a mode a known step does
# not accept are all reported as FAILURES by `--check` and by a full run --
# an opt file only stays trustworthy if a line nobody is honouring any more
# is loud, not quiet.
#
# THE ONLY STEP OPT-ABLE TODAY:
#
# panellift: dev-mode
#
# Meaning: "panellift is not `pip install -e`d on purpose, while the package
# is still being shaped. PYTHONPATH=src is the supported route on this
# checkout, not a workaround." With this declared:
# - `python tools/setup_machine.py --check` reports the installed-CLI step
# SKIP ("dev mode, per .setup-opts") instead of a FAIL that never clears.
# - `python tools/setup_machine.py` (full run) skips `pip install -e
# panellift` and instead runs `PYTHONPATH=src python -m panellift --help`
# to prove the route this checkout actually uses still works, and says so.
#
# Delete the line (or the whole file) once panellift is pip-installed for
# real -- then the ordinary "installed, no PYTHONPATH" check verifies that
# directly again, which is the stronger proof.
